What is the best free app for food tracking?

The best free food tracker is the one whose free plan fits how you eat. Compare daily limits, whether barcode scanning and macro tracking are free, ads, and privacy. AI Calorie suits people who prefer logging by photo or description, but its free plan has daily scan limits.

Is there an app like Cal AI but free?

Cal AI's website advertises a 3-day free trial and does not list plan prices on its homepage (checked 11 October 2026). AI Calorie has a free plan with daily limits, plus optional Pro. See our side-by-side comparison for logging methods and platforms.

Does MyFitnessPal have a free version?

Which free calorie counter app is best?

The best free calorie counter app is the one whose free tier fits how you log. Compare what each app includes without paying: scanning, daily limits, macros and ads. We compared five apps using only what each lists on its own site, and we included our own, clearly labelled.

How does free photo calorie counting work?

Open the app, photograph your plate and the AI suggests the foods and an estimate of calories, protein, carbs and fat. You review the result, adjust the portion if needed and save it. It is an estimate, so use it to stay consistent rather than to measure precisely.

Who the free plan is for, and who it is not

  • A good fit: you want a simple daily calorie and macro habit, a few AI logs a day, and no payment to start.
  • Less suited: you want to log every meal and snack by photo, or need many AI logs every day. That is what Pro is for.
  • Not a medical tool: it does not replace advice from a doctor or dietitian.
